Alexander Ltd.
Weddings Around the World410-419-2115
Alex Karas' thirty years of experience with a formal studio has helped him develop a "gift with people. I know how to photograph people by making them feel comfortable, then getting the shot. I plan well for events so I can work quickly and efficiently and still get beautiful pictures." He likes to get to know each client so that each shoot is unique and contains something new and creative. One shot he has recently done is a close-up of the bride's eyes that show a reflection of the groom. Photojournalistic, candid shots are mixed with classic portraiture. The cameras used by Alexander Ltd. photographers produce negatives bigger than 35 mm cameras, so retouching is easier and the quality is much better. Karas is available for hourly work for those who do not need full-day coverage.
Amy Deputy
410-472-9945A former photographer and picture editor for the Baltimore Sun, Amy Deputy takes a photojournalistic approach to shooting. She likes to get to know her clients well so that her photographs are true reflections of who they are. Deputy does have a shot she tries to always get with every event. "One shot I love is a giant group shot, actually an Irish wedding tradition, of photographing all the guests, the entire wedding, on the front steps of where the wedding was held." Her newest offer is an online proofing system, which enables the clients to access their proofs through the Internet and choose online which pictures they want. This also allows friends and family who would not usually have a chance to view the proofs to check them out on the web.

Artful Weddings by Sachs Photography
410-889-7854Joseph Sachs has been in the wedding photography business for two decades. "My experience has allowed for me to gain the knowledge and creative ability that makes great shots happen." Mostly taking photojournalistic shots, Sachs tries to capture the day with "beautiful and fun" shots of the bride and groom, along with formal, memorable pictures of the family. He usually meets with the clients two or three times before an event to get details and ideas settled. A few different kinds of cameras can be used for varied effects. Price is determined by the number of photographers needed and the number of pictures chosen. The standard amount of time spent at an event is eight hours. Proofs are returned about four weeks after the event, and can be kept by the client.
Black Tie Video
410-922-4707Owner Jim Skipper stresses the importance Black Tie videographers place on being unobtrusive while shooting the event. A 30 to 40 minute conference with the couple/hosts is held about two weeks before the event so that all specifics can be tackled early. At least two cameras are used per wedding and two at the reception. Skipper describes their shooting as "straightforward coverage with a documentary feel." No interviews are done with guests, and Skipper feels this makes all behavior appear "natural and relaxed." Five packages are offered, with prices based on time, number of cameras, and number of videographers. Three VHS copies are included, along with a highlight montage or photo montage. Prices range from around $1,500 to $3,000.
Clay & Company, Photography
301-670-3232Clay Blackmore has a philosophy he carries to each event: "Make people look great to the camera, and make the overall experience of being photographed fun." Blackmore says he is "one of the leading digital photographers in the world," and touts digital's ability to be retouched and enhanced. Clay & Company use Pro-Shop, a CD program from Kodak that allows clients to proof their photos on-line before ordering.
Eve Morra Photography
410-877-8169Eve Morra does a great deal of work with college publications, magazines, and wedding photography. Most of her wedding work is done in black and white, with the exception of the staged family shots. "I like to let people enjoy the day without intruding, so I come up with a true documentary of the day." One of the bonuses of Eve Morra Photography is her homemade albums. Morra offers a variety of paper colors so that most wedding albums are unique to each client. The two basic packages include one with six hours of shooting and twenty-four 5x7 custom prints for $2,300, or another with eight hours of shooting and twenty-eight 5x7s for $2,500.

Flair Photography and Video
410-329-2001Owner John Linko runs an operation of three photographers and three Videographers and says "the small size of the business allows for us to provide customized, personal service." After more than 20 years in wedding work, he adds, he knows about 90 percent of the locations in the Baltimore/Washington area. He and his staff meet with clients early and construct a detailed list of requested traditional shots. Most of their work is done in color, but black and white is an option. Around 40 percent of clients request video as well. They use digital cameras and editing systems which quicken the process of editing. The videos include special effects, music, and montages. Formal attire will be worn upon request.
Footer Photography
410-252-8498Footer Photography is a husband-and-wife team specializing in weddings, family portraiture and event photography. Co-owner Tom Murrill says "observation is a key element in our photography. Observing all interactions and small details leads to capturing special moments." Fast film and lenses are used so the natural light is usually sufficient for a quality picture. The Murrills often go to the wedding rehearsal to get to know those closely involved with the ceremony, to reach a comfort level before the photography begins. Three basic packages are offered for from $2,900 to $4,500 and include 225 to 300 5x5 color prints in an album, with the two more expensive packages including black and white prints.

Creative, customizable, and affordable event photography for your special event.
Isacson Studios Ltd.
7825 Tuckerman Lane, Suite 212Potomac, MD 20855
301-299-0800
Mostly working with weddings, Isacson photographers like to keep a relaxed, natural look in their pictures. They prefer natural light but offer a great deal of equipment such as special lenses and filters to give a soft, romantic focus, and telephoto lenses that allow for them to stay out of the center of the ceremony and reception. They describe their pictures as having a "fashion editorial magazine look- people look natural and perfect at the same time." A basic package, which includes an album of 50 photos and six 8 x 10 shots, begins around $6,000. Some offerings besides the typical albums include coffee table books and portfolio boxes.
Jackson Photography
410-817-6778Owner Gary Jackson has been in the photography business for over 20 years, shooting all kinds of events in color or black and white. "I do naturalistic photography, capturing the spontaneity of people and the elegance of locations," he says.
Jenny Lehman, Videojournalist
301-567-9622Jenny Lehman has been referred to by The Washington Post as "one of the most sought after wedding and event videographers." Her technology is modern and the small digital cameras she uses are easily hidden so they do not distract from the focus of the event. Lehman uses more equipment than most. "The bride doesn't get to see the groom's reaction as she walks in, or her mother's reaction. I use at least three cameras so that the bride will be able to see these different views on the final video." Five or six microphones are used so that all sound is "crisp and audible." Some special techniques include using movie cameras that offer a softer look with less contrast. This old film look is usually done in black and white or sepia, which gives a warm, copper-like hue. These shots are mixed with other black and white or color shots in the final product. Lehman likes to capture the whole day, starting with the men and women getting ready. Also included in the final product is a slow motion introduction in black and white or sepia, and a 50-image recap set to music at the end of the video. Lehman includes DVDs in most of her packages and also offers web streaming, which allows for the video to be put on the Internet. Packages typically range from about $5,090 to $6,290.
June Chaplin, Photographer
410-235-3927June Chaplin has about 25 years of experience and knows most Baltimore event places well. She has put a background in fashion photography to use in shooting weddings, children and some parties. "I like things that are on the verge of going out of control," she says. "That's why I work well with kids." Every bride's album will be "totally original and very personalized," she promises. "I am able to capture people looking like themselves and having a great time." The small equipment used makes her unobtrusive and inconspicuous at the ceremony and the reception. A lot of black and white shots are taken, and hand coloring of black and white prints is offered to give pictures a Victorian look. Also offered is infrared film. Two basic packages include six hours and 75 pictures for $3,800, or six hours and 90 pictures for $5,900.
Lamplighter Photography
410-879-2200About 99 percent of the work done by Chriss Smith is wedding photography. She meets with the bride and groom a couple of times before the wedding to discuss which shots will be taken. But after the preplanned shots are finished, most of her work is photojournalistic. One of her signature shots is a "fairy tale shot. I get the bride and groom to walk down a path, usually under trees, and use infrared film-a very romantic look." A soft-focus filter can also be used for a dreamy image. Smith has numerous examples of work available for review by clients so they can choose the look and techniques that they desire. Packages begin around $2,500 and include six hours at the event.
Larmar Video
410-356-5500Larmar Video handles a variety of jobs, from a multitude of social events to educational videos and cable television work. Their digital cameras need no cords or wires so that there is no interruption of the wedding or party. Co-owner Larry Bridge says their technology allows for "pristine" Pictures with a "very high quality appearance." Most of their shooting is candid. The final product includes a montage recap of highlights set to music with a variety of special effects, such as slow motion and blended effects. Formal dress is available upon request.
Linda Rosenthal Studio
24 W. Pennsylvania AvenueTowson, MD 21204
410-825-3232
Besides being a photographer, Linda Rosenthal specializes in another type of art. "I differ from other photographers in that I also do painting and textile artistry," she explains. "That allows for me to offer a wider variety of options." Her painting skills allow her to do photo retouching by hand, and also gives the clients the option of having paintings made from their photographs. Many of her albums are hand-decorated. She offers both black and white and infrared film. A basic $2,800 package includes six hours at the event and an album of thirty 8x10 prints, but Rosenthal stresses that price completely depends on the clients' choices.

On the big day, her shots are taken spontaneously for a true documentary look. "I want my photographs to say more about the people in them than about me." She is known for her work with black and white film. Formal attire is always worn. Average cost runs about $2,000 to $3,500.
Richard Rochfort
410-435-3333With around 28 years in the photography business, Richard Rochfort is an experienced event photographer focused mostly on weddings. He refers to himself as a "service provider" whose job is to record what is happening without manipulating images. "I'm like a good waiter-- be there, get the shot, go away." He aims to get good, clear photography of what is taking place without intruding. "A unique ability I have been told that I have, is to engage a subject for just the right amount of time to get a genuine look. It involves a certain pace-- looking at people and assessing when they will be ready without looking posed." The cameras used by Rochfort produce bigger negatives than the regular 35 mm cameras, which results in higher quality proofs. Cost is determined by time and amount of work. Average time spent at an event is around five to six hours, and the average price is about $2,500-$3,500.
