Baltimore On Air

Does anyone remember a cheesy bowling show on channel 24 then known as WMET? I remember the host having an extreme Baltimore accent. What a hoot!
And, I’m surprised nobody mentioned “The Collegians.” A pre-cursor to American Idol but the talent made even the worst of A. Idol seem like stars. My parents used to laugh like hell while watching “The Collegians.” My mom swore, the host could have been a serial killer or child molester in the making.
I was little when my mom would turn on the Buddy Deane Show while ironing and shaking her ample derrierre to the music while ironing. I believe my mom always wanted to be on “The Committie” but alas she had me and then my sister came into the world.
I was a conestant on Pinbusters and made it to week two and got a trophy courtesy of “Larry Beck the Trophy King.”
And, who could forget Dialing For Dollars hoping against hope that Mr. Fortune would call our home and for the moment at least lift us out of working class drudgery.
And, don’t forget the locally produced “Our Street” on MPT. I remember taking a tour to their stuidio in Owings Mills and commenting that the slum kitchen set reminded me our kitchen. Needless to say my folks were not happy campers. (LOL)
Captain Chesapeake was my favorite with Mondy and Bruce. I think back in the early 70’s he did it live or fairly live, as the 80’s came around it was just old clips in between shows. I remember it - television history, that is certain!!! I miss the old UHF channels and formats….you never know what you’d see.
Hodge Podge Lodge Lodge…
God how I loved that show! She demonstrated a gentleness and patience I never got at home… Comparison is powerful and life-giving.She helped me escape into the woods and brooks and streams where I found peace and nature and that still silent voice…sigh… Thank you Jean!
What a great look back at Baltimore and what it had to offer! I remember everything in this article and it certainly was fun to read!
