Turkish Delight on Main Street

Colors patterns, textures. Get ready to be overwhelmed by all three when you step inside Karavan, Treasures from Turkey a new shop at 109 Main Street.
Turkish rugs, upholstered stools, plates and bowls plus dozens of hand blown glass lanterns embellish every wall or shelf in the place. (Lanterns can be wired or used as conversation-piece candleholders.)

Fashion items are head turners—especially the handsomely embroidered shoes and knee-high boots. And, while there is plenty of traditional Turkish jewelry sprinkled about, a collection of unusual silver earrings and necklaces is quite contemporary.
Ask Max Onder, proprietor, about the tent hangings. Originally designed to jazz up tents, they’ll add some fun and texture to more traditional abodes. Max may look familiar, he also owns the original Karavan location in Eastport.

Allow plenty of browsing time. Lots of unusual goodies are dotted about including ornately decorated sewing or pillboxes and the tiniest, sweetest carved-bone jewelry boxes. Of course you’ll find a big basketful of the ‘all seeing eye’ and plenty of other good luck charms.
These days, we can all use a little of that.
