Annapolis just got tastier.
Imagine a place that bakes Blueberry Muffins only when blueberries are in season because only fresh organic blueberries will do.
Envision a hearty loaf of Cranberry Pecan, Sunflower Flax, Kalamata Olive, Rosemary or Raisin Pumpernickel Bread on your dinner table tonight. Loaves made fresh each morning with certified organic flours, grains, seeds, nuts and fruits.
This is not a foodie’s dream. This is what you’ll find at Atwater’s, a Baltimore-based deli/bakery that recently opened inside the Market House, across from Ego Alley.
If you can’t decide what to select, ask Dona, the very pretty, very knowledgeable manager for help. She’ll describe each wholesome treat as if it were a luscious work of art.
Every sandwich has a delicious twist—The House Roast Beef is a hefty meal made with freshly roasted beef, piled high on a Ciabatta roll and topped with blue cheese and onions. The Turkey Jack stacks oven-roasted turkey, pepper jack cheese, avocado, basil mayonnaise and coleslaw on thick slabs of Pumpernickel Raisin Bread. And, Peanut Butter and Raspberry Jam is paired with Sunflower Flax Bread instead of ordinary white.
Salads have style. The Chicken Salad combines free range chicken, Granny Smith apples, cranberries with a dash of golden raisins. To avoid boredom, salads change seasonally.
You may not think “soup” in the summer but you will when you try Atwater’s chilled Gazpacho, a cool’n healthy choice made from fresh local veggies. Or their traditional Maryland Crab Soup, a carefree summer meal when paired with a slab (or two) of hearty Country White Bread.
Goodies are grand. Peach Pie (in season only, of course), Carrot Cake, Fruit or Cream Tarts, plus a variety of cookies, scones, brownies and Snickerdoodles are worthy of a calorie splurge. Trust me. Have I ever steered you wrong?
