Add Comment (0)Preakness

While researching his story on rye, writer Jim Burger came upon a recipe from the golden age of cocktail-mixing for a rye drink called a “Preakness.” It has a snappy taste, and classic good looks.
So let the proletariat drink their Black-Eyed Susans. Next May, watch them stagger about the infield from the clubhouse bar. And join Jim there for a Preakness.
1 jigger of rye whiskey
1 teaspoon sweet vermouth
1 teaspoon Benedictine
1 dash of bitters
Stir well with cracked ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and add twisted lemon peel.
