Makes 12
1/2 cup cold butter
6 ounces cream cheese
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon cold water
1 jar apricot preserves
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Powdered sugar
Cut butter and cream cheese into flour and salt. Add the cold water until a dough forms. (I use a food processor to do this or attach a wire whip to your mixer and cut the butter and cream cheese together, adding the water a little bit at a time.) Whatever equipment you use to mix the ingredients, you’ll have to finish the process by hand so the mixture doesn’t get overworked.
Form the dough into a ball, wrap, and refrigerate until chilled. Roll out dough thinly and cut into 21⁄2-inch squares. Spread squares with apricot preserve, sprinkle with walnuts, and roll up from one end to form crescents. Bake in preheated 450-degree oven for 10 minutes, and sprinkle with powdered sugar once out of the oven. nCL
