Pet Names

OK, here’s a question for any and all to weigh in on…pet names.  Should a male dogs name end with an “a” or should a male dogs name sound somewhat masculine?  I think masculine, yes!  There is a beautiful but not so nice (at least to my Ryder) male rottweiler pit bull mix a few neighbors away whose name is Clover - really?  No wonder he’s mean.
Another dear friend wants to name a newly born male Bull Mastiff (strong muscular dog) Shasta - really?
Maybe I took too much Spanish in school but names that end in “a” signify feminine - right?  Why don’t they just name them Sissy?
And while were on pet naming, let’s talk about the Baltimore Zoo elephant about to give birth any day now, her name is Felix - really?
What is all this about, a new trend I missed?  Are parents now going to start naming their boys Amanda and Betty, and girls names Buford and Larry?  Isn’t it something like this:  Boy name is George, girl name is Georgina?  If you know pet names that don’t quite match the gender please email them to me - I want to know, I’m fascinated.
