I have been researching my family history for the past 6 years. I recently watch the interview that aired on the Today show back in 2005. I was wondering if someone could verify the dates on the gravestone that Mr. Stephen White mentioned on the show for Effie Wilson. My great grandparents are John W. Wilson and Mary Permelia Parks Wilson. Thank you for your time.

I’m looking for verification of the dates on Effie Wilson’s grave stone which Mr. White mentioned in his interview. My great grandparents are John W. Wilson and Mary Permelia Parks Wilson. They lived on Holland’s Island in it’s hayday. If someone could contact me I’d appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

I have just begun trying to trace my family tree. I believe my maternal grandfather, Daymon Washington Walters, was born on Hollis Island in 1892. Is Hollis Island and Holland Island the same place? I would be interested in communicating with anyone who knows the history about Hollis/Holland Island, because I don’t know who my grandfather’s parents were. I’m so sorry that I have waited this long to investigate my history especially because of the island’s fate.

I have spoken with Steve White who was my pastor and whose son and I played ball together. I am interested in helping when I can. I have my great grandfather’s hand tools. They may well be the same tools that built houses on Holland’s since he was a carpenter and waterman there. He married Mary Parks on the island 1907 I believe. I hope to visit before the hard rain falls to offer labor. I think the old house needs a dock for skipjacks and a sign that says visitor center. Little wooden planes marked Holland’s island in he hands of western shore school kids along for the day with their parents. As another grave stone on the island says “Don’t forget me”.
