I really enjoy following your blog.  I was wondering if you could make some recommendations on brands of household cleaners.  We’re ready to make the switch, but I don’t just want to buy the first thing I see.

Hi, Kristen:  Thank you for reading my blog.  I have experimented with household cleaning products and love Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day and Seventh Generation.  Several products are good (or OK) and reading labels is key to the process.  Products should be plant based and packaged in containers that are 100% recycled materials.  I’ve purchased products (in a hurry) that don’t stand up to those criteria like “Bright Green” whose containers are only 25% post-consumer; however, it’s better than making no effort.  Don’t use paper towels or other disposable wipes and use less water.  Think about everything that adds to your trash, mixes with your water or contaminates the air in your home.
