What’s Hot, What’s Happenin,’ Sept. 7-12

Sept. 9-11
Harborfest, Onancock. Great celebration in a great little town on the Bay. Kayak and rubber duck races, open-air artisan and farmers market, lots of live music and entertainment, tours of a Navy amphibious landing craft, horseshoe tournament. One of the best festivals on the Shore. Starts at 5 p.m. on Thursday & continues all day Friday and Saturday. http://www.onancock.com

Sept. 9-12
Mispillion Riverwalk Freedom Festival, Milford, DE. Weekend of events, contets, god live music. Starts with 5K run on the 9th, ends with interdenominational Sunday service on the 12th. “Duck Dash” race on the river, car/tractor/motorcycle show, vendors, crafts, ‘events’. Sept. 10-11
Native Plant Sale, St. Michaels, MD. Enhance your garden using native species that thrive in the Chesapeake region. Not sure what to plant? They offer a ‘sampler pack.’ Plus user-friendly horticulturalists to answer questions. Fri 9-4, Sat 9-2 at Environmental Concern in St. Michaels. http://www.wetland.org

Quilt & Arts Festival, Lewes, DE. Watercolor, pottery, woodworking, jewelry and the largest quilt show in the region. Friday evening reception 7-9 p.m. “Wine & Sweet Dreams” featuring photographer/author Kevin Fleming and his new book “Wild Delmarva” $20. Saturday show is free. 10-5. Remembrance Ceremony, Galena, MD. 7:10 a.m. Honoring the victims of 9/11. http://www.galenamd.com

Open House, Harriet Tubman Museum, Cambridge, MD. Newly restored with added exhibits and interpretive displays. 2-6 p.m. at the museum 424 Race St. Cambridge.

2nd Saturday Art Walk, Cambridge, Rehoboth, Chincoteague. 5-9 p.m. Galleries, Studios, shops open late. Lots of special events and activities.

Chestertown Art in the Park, Chestertown, MD. 40 artists and crafters showing their works in Fountain Park in the heart of town. 9-4:30. http://www.chestertownartinthepark.com

Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival. Over 100 artists display their works with a backdrop of sun, sand, and waves in this annual juried show. 10-6 p.m. Live music & silent auction. http://www.thequietresorts.com

Sundaes at Sunset, Layton’s Chance Winery, Vienna, MD. Ice cream topped with sweet wine (chocolate for kids), strolls through the vineyard, sitting on the veranda to watch the sun set: the definition of civilized. $5 adults $3 kids. http://www.laytonschance.com


Sept. 11-12
Nanticoke Indian Pow-Wow, Millsboro, DE. One of the largest gatherings of Native Peoples in the region. Traditional dancing, music, crafts, foods, educational displays. Special dance ceremonies for veterans. Sat. 12-7, Sun 10-5. $8 per vehicle. Walk-ins $2 adult, $1 kids. http://www.nanticokeindians.org

Tuckahoe Outlaw Days, Tuckahoe Equestrian Center, Tuckahoe State Park. Who says there aren’t cowboys on the Eastern Shore? Two days of shootouts, riding demos, pony & wagon rides, skits at “Tuckahoe City,” kids events, vendors. 9-5 each day. $7 adults, $3 kids.  http://www.tuckahoeequestriancenter.net

Plain Air Festival, Chincoteague. 40 artists scatter throughout Chincoteague, painting the scenery, landscapes, and people.  Event culminates on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. with a show and sale of the works.  http://www.chincoteagueculturalalliance.org

Sept. 12
Watermen’s Rodeo, Taylor’s Island, MD (Rt. 16 west, outside Cambridge). Watermen show off their boat docking skills in a series of contests for cash prizes and bragging rights. Hidden Treasures Half-Marathon and 5K, Salisbury, MD. Flat terrain and waterside run for the area’s first half-marathon. Runners are required to register and pick up paperwork on Saturday at the Civic Center. No day-of registration. Half-marathon begins 8 a.m., 5K at 8:30. $55 for half-marathon; $35 for 5K. http://www.salisburychampionships.org/running.htm

Annual Skipjack Bike Tour, Deal Island, MD. 15, 30, or 75 mile ride through the waterside landscapes of Somerset County. One of the nicest rides on the Shore. 8 a.m. start. Sag support until 4 p.m. $40. http://www.webauthority.net/lions.htm
